Whiting or Calcium Carbonate (Raw Materials) - Vessel & Glaze

Whiting, also known as calcium carbonate (CaCO₃), is a fine white powder derived from natural sources such as limestone, chalk, or marble. It is widely used in various industries, including ceramics, construction, and agriculture, due to its versatile properties. Whiting is known for its opacity, whiteness, and ability to act as a filler or flux in different formulations.

In pottery, whiting, or calcium carbonate, is primarily used as a flux in ceramic glazes, where it helps lower the melting temperature and improve the fluidity of the glaze during firing. This allows for a smoother and more even application, enhancing the overall finish of the pottery. Whiting also contributes to the brightness and opacity of glazes, resulting in a vibrant, white appearance that can enhance the colors of other glaze components. Additionally, it can help prevent crazing by reducing the thermal expansion of the glaze, thereby increasing the durability of the finished ceramic pieces. Its versatility and effectiveness make whiting an essential ingredient in the production of high-quality pottery.

-A fine, white powder with a smooth texture.

Other applications in different industries:

1. Construction:
Employed as a filler in paints, coatings, and sealants, enhancing brightness and opacity.

2. Agriculture:
Utilized as a soil conditioner and pH adjuster to improve soil quality and crop yields.

3. Food and Beverage:
Occasionally used as a food additive (E170) for its whitening properties and as a calcium supplement.

4. Glass Manufacturing:
Serves as a source of calcium in glass production, helping to improve the quality and durability of glass products.

NOTE: All Raw Materials are very fine-grained (200-325 Mesh).
