CMC or Cellulose Gum Solution - Vessel & Glaze

Gum Solution by Vessel & Glaze© is used for various purposes due to its versatility and unique properties. Gum solution was made by dissolving CMC (carboxymethyl cellulose), and other additives in water. Concentration can vary depending on the desired effect and the pottery project at hand. Experimentation with different solutions and techniques can lead to creative and unique results in pottery work.

Here are some of its primary applications in pottery glazes:

1. Joining Clay Pieces: Can be used as an adhesive to attach two pieces of clay together. Spread a thin, even layer on the surfaces you want to attach. Allow the pieces to dry completely before firing them.
2. Texture Creation: Can be applied to the surface of the clay to create interesting textures. Wait for the solution to dry and it can leave behind unique patterns or raised surfaces.
3. Slip Preparation: Can be used to thicken slip and enhance its bonding properties. Add 2-5% gum solution by weight of slip.
4. Underglaze Application: Can be added to underglazes to improve their adhesion to the clay surface and improve brushability. Add approximately 2-5% gum solution by weight to your underglaze.
5. Glaze Application: Can be used in glaze recipes to help suspend the glaze particles, preventing settling at the bottom of the container. Add approximately 2-5% gum solution by weight to the glaze.
6. Mold Making: Can be used in mold-making processes, such as creating plaster or slip-casting molds. They help improve the mold's release properties and allow for easier removal of the clay piece after casting. Add about 2-5% gum solution by weight to the mold-making material while stirring or mixing continuously. Ensure that the gum solution is evenly distributed throughout the material.
7. Sealing and Bonding: Can be used as a sealer for clay or ceramic surfaces to make them less porous and more resistant to moisture.

Note: Our Gum Solution is Food-Grade. It can also be used in Food Industry, Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics & Personal Care, and Paints & Coatings. The containers used for the liquid glazes are HDPE chemical containers with non-spill or anti-leak cover.
