Dolomite (Raw Materials) - Vessel & Glaze

Dolomite is a naturally occurring mineral composed of calcium magnesium carbonate, it is a valuable resource across multiple industries, including ceramics, agriculture, and construction. Its ease of use and versatility contribute to its widespread application in both industrial and artisanal settings.

Dolomite, in pottery, is commonly used as a flux in ceramic glazes and clay bodies, helping to lower the melting point of the materials and enhance the durability of the final product. As a source of both calcium and magnesium, it contributes to the development of smooth, matte glaze surfaces and can affect the color outcome of glazes, especially in combination with other oxides. Dolomite is particularly valued in mid- to high-fire ceramics, where it aids in producing stable, strong, and aesthetically pleasing results. Its inclusion in glazes also helps prevent crazing and other surface defects, making it a key component for potters seeking to create durable, functional, and visually appealing ceramic pieces.

Other applications in different industries:

1. Agriculture:
Applied as a soil conditioner and pH neutralizer to correct acidic soils, while providing essential calcium and magnesium nutrients for plant growth.

2. Construction:
Employed as a raw material in the production of cement and concrete, enhancing the strength and durability of the finished products.

3. Glass Manufacturing:
Used in glass production to improve the workability of glass mixtures and enhance the chemical durability of glassware.

4. Steel and Metallurgy:
Added to steelmaking processes as a flux to remove impurities and improve the quality of the metal.
