Copper Oxide, also known as cupric oxide (CuO), is a black, inorganic compound used in various industrial applications, it is valued for its stability, color properties, and electrical conductivity. Its role as a colorant in ceramics and glass is particularly important, where it can produce a wide array of striking hues, depending on the firing process.

Copper Oxide, in pottery, is a versatile and widely used colorant that produces rich and varied glaze effects. In an oxidation firing, copper oxide typically results in deep green or black glazes, while in reduction firings, it can yield vibrant red hues or metallic finishes. Its ability to interact with other glaze components and firing atmospheres allows potters to achieve a wide range of colors and surface textures, from glossy to matte finishes. Due to its stability and strong color response at high temperatures, copper oxide is a popular choice for both functional pottery and decorative ceramics, adding depth and vibrancy to ceramic pieces.
