Ball Clay (Raw Materials) - Vessel & Glaze

Ball Clay is a highly plastic and fine-grained sedimentary clay that is widely used in ceramics due to its workability, strength, and excellent firing properties.

Ball Clay, in pottery, is a vital component due to its high plasticity and fine particle size, which make it ideal for shaping and molding clay bodies. Its ability to hold form during the drying and firing process helps potters create intricate and detailed ceramic pieces, while also adding strength and workability to the clay mixture. Ball clay is often blended with other clays, like kaolin, to improve flexibility and firing performance without compromising the whiteness or smooth finish of the final product. Its presence in pottery ensures a balanced combination of strength, durability, and aesthetic appeal, making it essential for producing fine china, stoneware, and other high-quality ceramics. It also acts as a suspension agent and improves the application and adhesion of ceramic glazes. Widely used in the slip casting process for creating detailed and fine ceramics like figurines and complex shapes.

Appearance:
-Grayish, but turns white or light-colored when fired
-Fine, smooth texture and highly plastic
-Raw lump form

Other applications in different industries:

1. Tableware:
Used in fine china and dinnerware for its smooth texture and ability to hold fine details.

2. Refractories:
Used in making refractory materials where it aids in durability and heat resistance.

NOTE: All Raw Materials are very fine-grained (200-325 Mesh).
